Nutritional Supplementation
Most people simply need a good quality multi-vitamin and some fish oil to feel fantastic – if you are one of those people, congratulations! If you have bigger health challenges, however, you may need targeted nutritional therapy. Chronic conditions, medications, stress, poor sleep, or lots of exercise all place very specific demands on the body nutritionally. It’s not uncommon for people to need extra nutritional support.
The standard American diet is almost completely devoid of nutritional value, consisting of mostly processed foods and sugar, which rob your body of nutrition without putting any back in! Even if you have a wonderful diet, with lots of fresh produce, due to current farming practices our food is becoming less nutritious with more added pesticides, herbicides, and other pollutants. This results in nutritional deficiencies which cause a variety of symptoms. Conventional doctors have very little training in recognizing these deficiencies, and so they often go unnoticed until they are quite advanced. Even the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) of all nutrients/minerals is just enough to prevent overt disease – they are not enough to achieve optimal wellness. For example, the RDA for Vitamin C is anywhere from 60-120mg per day, depending on whether you are male or female, smoker or non-smoker. That is only enough to prevent scurvy, not enough to achieve and maintain optimal health!
Nutritional supplements include many things from vitamins and minerals to amino acids, and metabolic intermediates. These substances can have a profound effect on the body when used appropriately and at the correct dosage. Please consult a physician on which nutrients are best for you, before you spend a fortune on supplements you may not need!
