1 – Don’t I get everything I need from food? Unfortunately, the answer to that is no. Now, we all know that fast food and processed foods are pretty low in nutrition. But even if you are very careful to eat a nutritious diet with lots of produce and fresh foods, you can still be at a disadvantage. Current farming practices have depleted the soil of nutrients, so the produce we get typically has less “good stuff” than it would have had in our grandparents’ time. Plus, we are exposed to a number of different chemicals, pollutants, additives and preservatives every day – all of which need extra nutrients to be cleared out of the body. And, having extra stress in your days (who doesn’t?) will burn through nutrients much faster. So, really, anyone living a modern life in our modern world will need a good multi-vitamin.

2 – I never feel a difference when I take my multi, so why should I bother? Well, you need to make sure you’re taking a good quality multi for starters, one that is easily absorbed by your body and with enough “good stuff” to actually make a difference. The other thing to keep in mind is that taking a multi-vitamin is a more like prepping for a marathon, than for a sprint. You won’t feel a major burst of energy like caffeine, but you will notice that your energy is more stable and you have better focus. Typically the benefits of a multi are noticed in minor ways over time, or when you STOP taking them. You may notice that you have healthier hair and nails, that you aren’t as exhausted as your friends, or that you’re the only one at the office that didn’t catch that nasty flu bug – all signs that your multi is working.

3 – This is great well-rounded immune support. You can help your body respond to and fight potential infections from a number of different avenues in one tidy little package. Imagine how annoying it would be to have to take Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, beta-carotene, Vitamin D, etc all as separate capsules, and all AFTER you’ve started to feel ill? Wouldn’t you rather just take a good multi and avoid the situation altogether?

4 – Stress – we’ve all got it, and we all have to find a way to manage it. When you work long hours, worry, or are on the go more than you’d like to be, your body changes production of certain hormones, and revs up your production of ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate). ATP is the molecule your body uses as energy, and making it uses up a number of different things, not the least of which are B-vitamins. Taking a birth control pill? You are burning through more B-vitamins than usual. Had a few cocktails at that weekend barbeque? Also, using up extra B-vitamins. Taking a multi regularly helps replace some of that loss, without you needing to take a lot of capsules.
