Hair Restoration Treatments

According to the American Hair Loss Association, people in the U.S. spend more than $3.5 billion each year to treat hair loss. And sadly, most products marketed as hair restoration “miracles” are totally ineffective.

Hair Loss Isn’t Just for Men

Many people might be surprised to learn that 40% of people struggling with hair loss in the U.S. are women. In fact, it is estimated that 80% of women will have noticeable hair loss by age 60, vs. 65% of men. While a drop in testosterone is typically the cause of baldness in men, women may have more complex reasons. Oral contraceptives (particularly those with a high-androgen index), as well as contraceptive implants, injections and patches are a common trigger of hair loss in women. Many women also notice thinning hair after having children, due to shifting hormones. Menopause which causes a drop in hormones, can contribute to the same balding pattern that men experience.

PRP for Hair Loss

PRP, also known as Platelet Rich Plasma, has received national attention as an effective solution for hair loss in both men and women. With PRP, a small sample of the patient’s blood is separated into platelets, serum and blood cells. The platelets, which contain growth factors, are injected directly into the scalp to stimulate new hair growth.

PRP injections are effective for both thinning hair and balding. There is no downtime for the patient, and results can appear as soon as two to six weeks after the treatment. In fact, it receives a 97% satisfaction rating on Real Self.

PRP vs. Hair Transplants

While hair transplants have become a popular option, there are risks to consider, including complications arising from surgery, infections, scarring and results that look less than natural. This procedure, unlike PRP, is often considered painful and requires considerable downtime during the healing process.
