PRP injection prolotherapy is an amazing treatment for chronic pain from arthritis, tendonitis, old injuries, or repetitive injuries. In these cases, pain often stems from an instability in the joint. For whatever reason, the tendons, ligaments and other connective tissue around the joint have become loose or torn. PRP injection prolotherapy, also known as Cellular Regenerative Injection Technique, can repair that tear, and make the joint more stable and less painful.
Traditional prolotherapy involves an injection into the joint (similar to cortisone), except the solution that is delivered is all natural and designed to temporarily create some inflammation. This temporary inflammation signals the body to flood the area with healing and repairing cells, to strengthen and heal stretched or torn ligaments, meniscus, cartilage, etc. The biggest difference between prolotherapy and cortisone is that cortisone is designed to stop inflammation (which it does very well), but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem and so pain often comes back. Not only does it come back, but you can only have so many cortisone treatments before it starts to damage the joint. Prolotherapy gets to the root of the problem, healing the joint to create lasting pain relief.
One of the most exciting advancements we are proud to provide is in the regenerative power of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). A simple non-invasive office procedure harvests the healing properties of blood cells that can be used to treat a variety of conditions including joint pain, cartilage loss or arthritic conditions. PRP solution contains your body’s healing cells such as platelets, growth factors and stem cells. The PRP is then injected into the joint and allows the immune cells direct access to repairing the joint.
At Desert Wellness Center, we provide PRP injection treatments that are effective in treating painful or degenerated joints using cutting edge technology from Terumo to extract the most platelets possible.
Small injections of the healing PRP solution into the damaged area stimulate the natural healing response to tighten and tone ligaments. This restores the normal range of motion and eliminates joint pain — often with one treatment. Unlike cortisone, PRP does not degrade the joint; rather, it stimulates the repair of the joint.
Most patients will need just 1-2 PRP treatment to achieve full results, but that number will vary based on your individual case. Some patients experience as much as 75% relief after just one treatment!
